How We’re Building Our Strategic Plan
A great strategic plan isn’t written in a vacuum—it’s built together. Over the next year, we’ll work with our community to move from planning to execution. Below, you’ll get a look into where we’re going, and get an idea of how you can jump in.
Our mission

Timeline
Step 1: Brainstorming
April – August 2026
- Build the foundation of the plan by defining core goals
- Plan engagement opportunities for the university community
Step 2: Community Engagement
September – November 2026
- Gather as much community feedback as possible
- Methods: town halls, focus groups and online feedback opportunities
Step 3: Taking Action
November 2026 – January 2027
- Organize feedback: define key themes, bring initial findings to the community, identify deliverables
- Early 2027: begin drafting Uncommon Future: Strategic Plan 2032 based on community ideas and themes
Step 4: Finalizing the Plan
February – March 2027
- Review the draft with the Board of Visitors and key governance groups like the Student Government Association, Faculty Senate and Staff Senate
- Feedback wanted: Publish the draft online for a universitywide public comment period
Step 5: Launch
April – May 2027
- After final feedback: Publish the strategic plan!
- Establish dedicated implementation teams and public dashboards to track progress
- Create clear accountability as we turn Uncommon Future: Strategic Plan 2032 into reality!
